Sodalite was originally discovered in Greenland, around 1806. The color is usually a slate blue color with white stripes but not always.... it can also be Orange, Purple, Grey, Yellow and sometimes it even has no color at all! It is often misidentified as Lapis Lazuli due to the color resemblances however it is a completely different mineral. In Greek, Sodalite means "salt stone" and as it's name suggests, it does contain a lot of salt which is why it is classified as a mineral.
